Data share or data transfer are alternate names for the Airtel data Me2U function. You can use this feature to send data from your data bundle balance to another Airtel SIM if you have an active data bundle on your Airtel SIM card.
For example, if you purchased, the 1GB monthly data plan, then you can transfer 100MB or more from your bundle balance to another Airtel SIM card while the data is still active.
Transfer Data Using The Airtel Data Me2U Service
To easily and quickly transfer data, you need to follow the instructions below;
- Go to your phone key pad
- Dial the USSD code *141*6# using your Airtel SIM card
- Select option 8 (Data Me2U) from the options displayed
- Select option 2 (Send Me2U from existing allowance) from the options displayed
- Enter the Airtel Nigeria phone number you wish to transfer data to
- Enter the quantity of data you wish to transfer in MBs to the other Airtel SIM card
- Enter your Airtel transfer PIN. Airtel’s standard transfer PIN is 1234. (It is advisable that you modify the default PIN before moving forward.)
- Confirm the transaction by selecting option 1
It is that simple and you will receive a notification message that data has been transferred.
What Is Airtel Data Gifting Service?
Customers can buy data bundles for other Airtel SIM cards using the Airtel network’s Airtel Data Gifting function. In other words, you can use your airtime balance on another Airtel Nigeria SIM card to directly pay for data packages.
This is like giving someone a gift of data bundle and that’s why it is called data gifting. For instance, you might buy a 3GB Airtel internet plan for a different Airtel customer and pay for it using your SIM card.

When you activate your Airtel sim card, it comes with a default data transfer pin which is 1234. To avoid unauthorized persons from transferring data from your sim card without your consent, it is always recommendable to change the default transfer pin.
To do this, keep in mind the following recommendations:
- Go to your phone key pad
- Dial the USSD code *141*6# for Airtel to Airtel data transfer.
- Select option 1 (change PIN- default PIN-1234) form the options displayed
- Enter the default Airtel transfer PIN (1234)
- Enter your preferred transfer PIN. For example, 2004
- Confirm your new transfer PIN by typing it again 2004
The successful change of your Airtel transfer PIN will be confirmed by a notification message.
Transfer Airtel Data Via SMS
Sharing data using the USSD code method outlined above is easy but it is by no means the only way. You can also transfer data using the SMS as outlined below:
- Go to messages in your phone
- Type “SHARE” in the message box
- Send the message to 121. This the Airtel to Airtel data transfer short message code number.
- Follow the instructions displayed to complete the procedure. The instructions will be in the format; “SMS ADD” < SPACE> Airtel Mobile Number> to 121;
- Follow the on-screen instructions carefully
You’ll receive a confirmation message; read it carefully and follow the instructions to confirm the transaction.
After confirmation, the data bundle will be sent to the Airtel SIM card.
